Scorpius stared back at Albus when the boy's jaw dropped. Of course if his father had told him the story, Albus's father must have too. Scorpius's dad had the annoying habit of glossing over the bits he felt didn't quite fit (like the part where he let the Death Eaters into Hogwarts and confronted Headmaster Dumbledore in the Astronomy Tower), which he'd always have to wheedle out of his mother when his father wasn't around. From she'd said, he gathered that Harry Potter and his father had hated each other, maybe even loathed each other, and despite ending up on the same side at the end of the war, had never quite been able to put that behind them.
Albus squirmed a little uncomfortably in his chair, and Scorpius supposed that perhaps like father like son, the train ride might pass faster if he said no more and went back to his reading. He looked up again when Albus's jaw shut with a snap and he spoke, just as cheerful as ever.
"My grandfather named me," Scorpius replied. "My English name, at least." He figured he'd get lots of questions about his name. Why couldn't he have something nice-sounding like his sister? Instead he got saddled with Scorpius. It wasn't pretty and it conjured up images of unfriendly poisonous things, but at least it didn't rhyme with anything, which was at most what Scorpius found he could be thankful about.
Scorpius shrugged. Excited? Well, maybe. "A bit," he conceded, being as honest as he could. He obviously wasn't as excited as Albus there, but it was something of an adventure to be on his own, far away from home.
